When we first moved here from Chicago I came across a gathering of Black Vultures in a tree by our home. I looked down and noticed there was a dead Black Vulture on the ground, and it looked like it struck the power lines near by. The other vultures were gathered around the dead one in the trees above, unmoving. I learned after some research that Black Vultures are loyal and family-oriented birds. They share food with their relatives, and stay together in a family group after fledging. I painted this little one after this encounter, and it turned out happier and nicer than I imagined :)
This print is an archival giclee print, made with archival pigmented ink on 100% cotton rag fine art paper. This is a print depicts a kindly black vulture on a field of black ink, inspired by the Inktober prompt word "shy."
