Cuckoos are elusive and shy birds, who look too tropical to live in the woods here in the US, but lo and behold they certainly do! Each spring they migrate their way and breed here, heading back to South America for the winter. Often heard before seen, Black-Billed Cuckoos make a variety of soft tooting songs and almost alien-woodblock-y calls. Yellow-Billed Cuckoos make a high-pitched repeated cooing, and the males make a hollow woodblock noise with ka-ka-ka-ka-ka-kow-kow-kowlp-kowlp-kowlp-kowlp syllables. Keep your ears peeled once the weather warms up, you may catch a glimpse of the deep red eye of the Black-billed, or the bold tail spots of the Yellow-billed!
These prints are hand-printed limited edition (15 each) linocut prints with hand-stamped and hand-drawn details. Printed on 8x10 inch acid free, lightweight white paper. One depicts a Black-billed Cuckoo on a leafy branch, surrounded by an orb of olive green. The other depicts a Yellow-billed Cuckoo on a leafy branch, surrounded by a bright coral pink orb. They pair well together, and look great on their own as well!
Since each print was carefully inked, pressed and pulled by hand, the colors and textures may vary between prints. This is normal and is part of the allure of the printmaking medium :)
Each print is signed and editioned by the artist.
